Responsibilities

• Monitoring of servers, addressing any issues raised and ensuring that SLAs are met
• Pro-active maintenance of servers and supporting infrastructure
• Manage end user accounts, permissions, access rights, and storage allocations in accordance with best-practices regarding privacy, security, and regulatory compliance
• Participate in and support capacity planning for systems and software in conjunction with end-users and department managers.
• Coordinate with end-users and other IT infrastructure groups to implement server systems that utilize industry best practices to meet corporate objectives
• Deploy servers and other related devices in datacenters
• Perform and test routine system backups and restores
• Anticipate, mitigate, identify, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware and software problems on servers. Escalate incidents as necessary
• Support application development teams throughout project lifecycles.
• Analyze system, server, application, network, and input/output device performance
• Recommend, schedule, and perform software and hardware improvements, upgrades, patches, reconfigurations, and/or purchases
• Create required reports in response to business user needs
• Develop, document, and maintain policies, procedures and associated training plans for system administration and appropriate use
• Manage and/or provide guidance to junior members of the team

Knowledge & Experience
• Strong technical knowledge of Microsoft Windows (2000, 2003, 2008)
• Technical knowledge of Unix or Linux a major bonus
• Knowledge of clustering technologies (e.g. Veritas, MS Cluster)
• Ability to write scripts in some administrative language (Perl, VBScript)
• Knowledge of Veritas Netbackup
• Basic knowledge of Lotus Notes administration
• Experience with VMWare ESX highly desirable
• Exposure to Citrix technologies a plus
• Hands-on OS and hardware troubleshooting experience
• Experience documenting and maintaining configuration and process information
