Program Manager

To say that the role of a Program Manager (PM) at Microsoft is unique, is an understatement. The usual parallels drawn from the industry are the “Product Manager” (product companies) and “Project Manager” (service companies) roles. Neither of these are accurate, though there are elements of the PM job at Microsoft that could sometimes overlap these roles. It is not a marketing role, but a very clear engineering role. It is not a people management role, though there are PM career paths both in management as well as in individual contributor streams. It is an inwardly facing role, though customer empathy is a key competency requirement and customer connection is a key role attribute.



Partner with development and work through the entire product cycle as the advocate for end-users and customers. The role entails the following three distinct “phases” in cycles: Learn, Spec, Deliver.

  • Learn: Spend time learning about customer problems and available products and technologies that are relevant to these problems. Work with the planning team to understand competitive products or new products in the marketplace. The output of this phase is a prototype upon which the PM will author specifications.
  • Spec: Convert the learning into a customer experience by creating exhaustive, prescriptive and succinct specification documents which will serve as the defining documents for what functionalities the product will deliver and how the product will behave.
  • Deliver: Track the development progress, assess and reinforce quality, validate the usability of the product, refine the specifications based on early customer input and finally deliver the finished product on time as per the specifications laid out.

During all three phases, a key requirement for the PM is to be able to constantly convince and evangelize to peers, management and the development team about the right things to do, by bringing in the customer perspective and being the customer advocate at all times.

Development Lead/ Test Lead

You must be a highly motivated person who can lead a team of brilliant engineers through the software development life cycle. You will work with the Terminal Server MSIDC leadership team to influence the product roadmap and the detailed milestone based delivery plans. You are expected to have a significant contribution as an Individual Contributor (IC). The contributions are in the form of designing, implementing and testing software for solving highly complex technical problems. You should be a BE in CS, EE or related field, preferably an MS/MTech, and should have 7+ years of industry experience in Software Development. High proficiency in C/C++ language with considerable experience in having designed complex systems is a must. You should also have experience in leading technical teams. You should be a self-starter, have excellent communication and problem solving skills. You should also be able to think abstractly and be able to drive the team to make meaningful contributions. Experience in customer engagement is a plus.


For the above positions we are looking at BTech, CS candidates with strong C++/C#/Java experience with a min of 6+ years of experience.



Software Development Engineer (SDE) 4 yrs:

We are looking for strong and experienced Software Development Engineers interested in nimbly delivering value to our customers. If you are excited in building higher quality software, come and join us. You will be a key member of the team responsible for developing the above products and features. We have openings for Developers, Developers in Test, and Program Managers.

Qualifications for this position include a minimum of five years product development experience. Solid problem solving and designing, excellent communication and collaboration skills, and the ability to motivate yourself as wel! l as demonstrated technical leadership are required. In addition, we will look for functional area specific skills like solid coding, testing and feature specification for the Development, Test, and Program Management roles.

At least 4 years of relevant software design, development, experience
BA/BS in Computer Science or a related technical discipline
Solid C++ or C# coding skills
Experience in using modeling techniques for solving complex distributed systems problems would be useful
