Dear Sumedh, Company : Symbian *Job Title Technical Author *Division Software Engineering *Location Bangalore Broad Content Technical Authors in the System Documentation team communicate to our customers how the Symbian OS can be used for further development. Authors work with one or more engineering project teams to produce reference and guide documentation for the Symbian OS. We require Technical Authors who can demonstrate the ability to document APIs and system guides for developers. We are looking for authors who have experience of authoring in several substantial software projects, documenting large and complex systems. The role requires the author to contribute their understanding to a range of system documentation projects. An ability to write clearly and concisely is important. Both formal writing experience and some programming knowledge are required, although the candidate will be mainly interested in documentation Key Tasks The principal responsibility of the Technical Author is for creating system API guides/how-tos/overviews, which describe the OS its architecture and functionality, for developers. Competencies The position requires a motivated individual who can deliver the technical document as per the need. In general the individual shall have expertise in: API documentation Working in a team for a given project/assignment Understanding of C++ Meeting timelines as per the schedule Have industry experience 2 to 4 yrs Essential Qualifications Computing, or Engineering, or Technical Writing qualification, or equivalent experience in these fields Experience Must have good experience with system documentation and some programming knowledge. Understand API documentation and C++ (should be able to read and understand C++ programs). Good understanding of what it takes to document a complex system, probably gained while working on the documentation of at least one large software system. Working in a team for a given project/assignment and meeting timelines as per schedules. Skills Authoring, Writing, Reviewing Technical Documentation using modern Publising tools Disposition Self-motivated, flexible with good interpersonal skills. Must be able to communicate effectively with software engineers. Needs to be organised and able to plan and schedule work. Have a proactive and structured approach to problem solving. Desirable Qualifications Experience Experience of working in a team in reputed companies preferably in a multinational/global corporation. An understanding of documentation tools and practises (e.g. XML, Doxygen, etc.) Knowledge of OO documentation techniques, e.g. patterns, UML. Programming skills, preferably C++ or another OO language. Knowledge of OO programming principles, OO documentation approaches including patterns and UML modelling is desirable. This role will require working on the documentation of the Symbian OS components and the candidate should express an interest and demonstrate some knowledge of these areas.
