MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY
1. (70%) This position must lead a shared services development team in ensuring the most appropriate technical solutions - conforming to West Technology architectural best practices and guidelines - are implemented and aligned with business needs and requirements. This includes, but is not limited to:
• Oversee technical development of projects to ensure software development lifecycle and CMMI processes and standards are implemented and followed.
• Collaborate with Architect and Principal Technologist staff to generate innovative approaches and solutions to technology challenges.
• Provide project and personnel leadership to software development project team members.
• Work with organizational colleagues to plan and schedule change requests for new features and functionality.
• Participate in the requirements gathering process for new features and functionality.
• Participate in the review of Software Requirement Specification, Software Design Specification and test plan documents.
• Participate in annual and quarterly project planning identifying which projects will be completed in the upcoming time period.
• Work with project managers on project planning, scheduling and resourcing activities.
• Identify and lead the resolution of issues, including project priority conflicts.
• Provide communication between management and team members.
• Work with other teams and departments to insure processes and communication across groups is working effectively and that issues are being addressed and resolved.
• Manage escalated support of production system insuring that issues are being investigated and resolved.
2. (30%) Provide day-to-day oversight of a team of software engineers to ensure that key project deliverables are successfully delivered. Commit to the recruitment and growth of the individuals in the team, providing mentoring, career guidance, training and effective feedback. Provide effective performance management when necessary.
RESPONSIBILITY FOR WORK OF OTHERS
There are approximately 5 development staff members that will report in directly to this position.
REQUIREMENTS:
Education
A four-year degree in computer science or a related field is required. Graduate training in business or technology is a plus, but not required.
Knowledge and Skills
The ability to drive, motivate, and guide a strong technical team is critical in meeting the business and technology needs of the Novus Suite. In addition, the candidate for this position must demonstrate strong business acumen and communications skills.
Technical knowledge should include experience in building enterprise-level services, hands-on design and development experience, preferably in Java, and experience with web application development, XML, and data transformation technologies. Knowledge of, and experience with, WebSphere or Apache Tomcat application servers is a huge plus.
Previous Experience
Candidates should possess 8+ years of background in software development and be technology thought leaders. 4+ years of that experience should be spent in the successful leadership of software development teams.
Candidates should also possess:
• Strong organizational and analytical skills
• Effective problem-solving and issue resolution capabilities
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Familiarity with PMI project management principles a plus
