BUSINESS UNIT OVERVIEW Compliance Technology � Control Risk In our mission of being a full service institutional investment bank, we manage operational risk. Control Risk Technology is responsible for building systems that allow us to assess non-financial risk across all business processes, as well as identify and record issues and incidents that happened across the firm in support of various government and industry regulations. This function is essential to the firm�s mission of being a full service bank and it helps to protect our greatest asset � our reputation. Such systems have to be extremely scalable, performance driven and efficient. We follow agile development methodologies to respond quickly to regulatory changes and new market developments. As we expand our business into new markets, some of which have very strict regulations, there is a need to develop solutions which can be flexible and adaptable for the new markets. Core Java, (oracle,sql,db2,UDB,Sybase), ORM frameworks, CVS, SourceForge, Continuous Build, Junit, Fitnesse. Distributed Systems, .NET/ MS Office development experience a plus. RESPONSIBILIITES Develop an understanding of the technical architecture, gather business requirements, hands on involvement in the extension of Control Risk Framework and Applications. Project Management, contribution to the technical architecture, managing a small team of developers and mentoring and coaching them on technical best practices and help in delivery of the requirements. Global managers and Business Analysts in NY. Interfacing with Business Users in different geographical locations. Analysis, Design and Implementation of new Risk Assessment, Issue Management and Convergence applications. Responsible for enhancements in the existing applications. Among other tools and technologies, the candidate will develop strong expertise in Core Java, SQL, caching, messaging, xsl and xml, server side Java development, database design, SQL performance tuning, stored procedures, automated testing, agile development, test driven development and object oriented design. DEVELOPMENT PROSPECTS Control Risk is a growth area for technology. As the regulatory environment has become more and more demanding and our business volumes and complexity has increased sharply, the importance of assessing risk, identifying issues, and correlating this information across the firm has become paramount. Therefore the need to implement more complex workflows and real time flows of information between the various systems in GS. This growth will result in opportunities for both horizontal growth as a specialist, and vertical growth as a manager. All of our team members have either worked or are scheduled to travel on 3 month short term assignments or more with the New York team. While we can not guarantee that such opportunities will be provided, opportunities to train and work in other regions do and may arise from time to time. Several of our best architects and managers do travel from region to region and we ensure that our people utilize such opportunities to learn and network with them. SKILL / EXPERIENCE MANDATORY Skill Expertise Level Core Java, SQL, RDBMS Concepts, Analytical Skills Very Strong Tomcat, Eclipse, CVS, Oracle or DB2 specific experience, Web development. Strong Object Oriented Design, Design Patterns, XML, Automated Testing. Strong Agile Development, Test Driven Development, Release and Change Management Strong Sybase, SQL Performance Tuning, XSL, ORM framework like Hibernate Required Distributed Systems, .Net and MS Office Development Desired Technology experience in the financial services industry is desirable but not mandatory. Compliance, Surveillance or Risk Management experience in a major investment bank would be perfect. Analytics experience handling large data sets would be good. Strong verbal and written communication skills are important and experience in working in the offshore / onshore model is preferred. Some support experience would help as the role will involve some amount of time in supporting applications, specially in clarifying user queries and helping the team in resolution of technical issues.
